New Music From LA Scuzz Punks FIDLARLouder Than War have been repping LA lo-fi scuzz-punks FIDLAR for so long now you probably don’t even need us to tell you what FIDLAR is an acronym for. Right? They’ve been busy in the last couple of weeks anyway – last week they dropped a new video & yesterday they announced the release of a brand new single. Both artifacts can be streamed below.

In their earlier days FIDLAR were accused of being slackers – an accusation that’s been blown out of the water considering how many shows they play, not to mention how productive they are in terms of new music.

It’s a well known fact that they put their heart & soul into ever live performance, as was the case when we caught them live in Bristol earlier in the year, a show that ended in absolute drunken mayhem as the power went & the audience, equally as shit faced as the band, invaded the stage & refused to leave even though the owners told them there was no way the power could be fixed with most of the audience on the stage!

Which brings us to their latest two musical treats for us. Firstly the video which stars (US TV show) Parks & Recreation’s Nick Offerman. The band have a rep for edging on the puerile side of things, not to mention the chaotic, drink n reefer loving side of things, & this video does nothing to dispel any of those notions. The video’s for the song “Cocaine” & features Nick, somewhat pissed, relieving himself in various places across LA. “Nothing is safe, including the Hollywood sign, a few animals, Matt Zuk, Nick Cage’s star on the Walk of Fame…”

Yesterday the lads announced a new single, ‘Awkward’ which is to be released digitally through Wichita Recordings on September 8th. Awkward is a live favourite already so it was inevitable it’d get a proper release. Packed full of riffs as one would expect from FIDLAR it’s actually a re-recording of an older tune, one that featured Kate Nash on vocals.

Guy is a former full time member of the Louder Than War editorial team, who's since moved on to pastures new. Music's been a large part of his life since he first stumbled across Peel on his tranny as a fifteen year old. His whole approach to music was learnt from Peel in fact, which includes having as inclusive a taste in music as possible. Guy devotes most of his time looking for new music & although he's been known to say "the only good music is new music" he pretty much accepts this is bollocks. Favourite band The Minutemen.
