Zulu make a fantastic racket – kind of like the Horrors let loose with Black Flag – it’s great stuff, there is an air of the fifties, a whiff of The Cramps, some tough bass playing from Louis Simonon (that’s right, the son of ex Clash Paul Simonon’s who seems to have inherited his father’s effortless cool and also love of film with the band’s monicker coming from Louis Simonon’s favourite film), some great rock n roll guitar licks, some punk rock and lots of deep sonorous vocals from Luke Brennan, sometimes semi spoken sometimes screamed.

It’s also very powerful and the songs are great.

They only played their first gig at the Wheelbarrow in Camden last September and have been operating under the radar honing down their sound – listening to the 8 tracks demo it sounds like they are ready; they are really that good.

The band have also supported IceAge and have released a 100 only run of cassettes of all things on Stroll On records

The cassette goes under the name of ‘Way Of The Zulu’ and is one of the best collection of punk rock songs I’ve heard for a long time. Instead of taking the usual post punk influences of their hipster contemporaries, the band have looked deeper into the best of punk rock, garage and fifties rock n roll and updated it into the 21st century.

  1. Really like this, you’re right about the Cramps via Strange House influence but the world needs more of this stuff.

Hope to see them play Mcr soon.

  2. One thing I would really like to say is that often before obtaining more laptop memory, look at the machine into which it will be installed. In the event the machine is definitely running Windows XP, for instance, a memory ceiling is 3.25GB. The installation of over this would merely constitute some sort of waste. Be sure that one’s motherboard can handle this upgrade quantity, as well. Interesting blog post.
