New Band of the Day – Kagoule

Three seventeen year olds making seriously cool excellent music, our new band of the day is Kagoule, and this is why we think you should be listening to them.

Kagoule are a three piece from Nottingham. They are have just released their debut single on Denizon Recordings both as a download and a seven inch single. The music is world weary and seriously cool. Cai’s guitar and bass sound goes from huge slabs of noise over everything to delicate gentleness and washes of sound. Lucy’s bass is a fuzzed out master of keeping the sound grounded by grooving along underneath the guitar, it moves the music on and give a frantic edge. Lawrence keeps the whole thing together with a cool, masterful drum sound.

The three of them are seventeen, so they are teenagers, in a brilliant band, and making music as good as this. What a life! They also recently supported Iceage which Lawrence played even though he had broken his wrist the day before.

‘Monarchy’ sounds like they have mixed a huge dollop of alternative rock together, mixing up Fugazi, Smashing Pumpkins and attacked the result with a fresh eye and a smile. It swings low and rocks hard. ‘Mudhole’ is slower growing and harder, the guitars are spikier and the drums stutter as the sound swells. The sound is all encompassing and drags you in. An excellent duo of songs.

This is a band that I know you should be listening to, surfing the net and reading about and then going to see live. As I said, seriously cool music and only available physically on a limited edition seven inch single from their bandcamp page. What more could you want?

You can get the physical release and download here. Kagoule are also on Facebook here and are on Twitter as @Kagoule.
