New band! Desks : new music from Evil Blizzard Mark and friendsDesks is a new band formed during lockdown by Preston musician Mark Whiteside (Evil Blizzard / One Sided Horse).

It’s a long way away from the magnificent malevolence of Evil Blizzard and has a West Coast Chilled vibe mixed with a mid-seventies Bowie / The National feel – classic chords and guitar songwriting melancholia.

After writing some new material Mark turned to Perry Pelonero, a New York musician who had released a song on Mark’s own Mr Lewis Records with his band Star Control to add some Ambient guitar to the music. Perry has worked with many musicians including JJ from Discharge and playing guitar with Dean Garcia of CURVE on SPC ECO songs.

Perry suggested bringing a friend of his, Patrick Files (guitarist / producer) from New Orleans, now living in Chicago on board and the trio was born.

The idea was simple, Mark would record all his vocals and acoustic live into his phone and send to Perry. He in turn added his ambient guitar parts and send to Chicago for further guitars and mixing. A real transatlantic DIY project to say the least!

Taking inspiration from various musical styles they created a sort of “Ambient Country Soundscape Drone”
