The debut single from Suspects, Innocence, received fantastic support from the likes of John Kennedy (Radio X), BBC introducing, Radio1 and Kerrang! It was a slice of screwed up punk psychedelia from the depths of Southend’s underclass.
So how do you follow such a song ? Easy… you combine all that into 1 minute 18 seconds of pure sleaze ridden punk rock and get Luke, from label mate Asylums, to bring his guttural backing vocals. The result leaves your soul cleansed by your skin crawling… oh and call it Anaphylactic Shock..
Thomas Prescott and James May, AKA Suspects, met in 2010 in Southend on Sea and have been causing trouble ever since.
Suspects influences range from the sludge and grit of the pre ‘Nevermind’ Seattle grunge scene, to the raw stripped back power of the early millennium garage rock scene. Ed Sheeran it aint !
When not making music, they help run the Cool Thing club nights, ingratiating themselves with the waifs, strays and disillusioned who frequent the nights…and drinking them under the table.
“Anaphylactic Shock is a serious allergic reaction to something. In severe cases can cause death. Modern life is riddled with so many small but frequent triggers, we ALL have the ability to lose our cool. And it can be quite an expe- rience when doing so” – Thomas Prescott
Cool Thing Records is the de-cultural home of Asylums, B.A.I.T., Beckie Mar- garet, Indian Queens, Petty Phase, The Horse Heads and more to come.. Hail- ing from the seaside town they didn’t even bother to finish let alone forget to shut down, Southend On Sea.
