The latest release on Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess’s fab O Genesis label, Throwing Up are another gem of a find.
With that great wall of sound cranked fuzzbox avalanche of guitar and a really cool, sweet vocal Throwing Up pull off the trick of sounding classic and future all at the same time. This is punk rock for the ATP crowd, classic pop when pop meant life affirming rushes of pop noise. They also have one of those perfect names for a band that makes you wonder why no-one has used it before…
From London and formed in 2010, band members Clare James Clare, and Camille Benett previously played in All girl four pieceHeadless. whilst Drummer Ben Rayner previously played in such bands as Fading Fast, The Permanent, Shitting Fists, and This Time Around
Meet Throwing Up. Their music is the sound of a kind of sticker book collage of the best of the past and the present, with one eye on the future. There’s clues that they’re from London and it’s 2013 but they could be from anywhere, anytime in the last 30, or even the next 10 years – Over You builds a house on these raw foundations. With their whistle at the bus stop hooks and snappy tunes their songs are stripped back, yet so catchy too… it’s Agit pop like we’ve not seen in a while. A little bit of something to shake the mainstreamup but happy to be a poster on your bedroom wall too – We love Camille and Clare and we reckon the world will too. We love Throwing Up.
