Artist: Klaus Johann Grobe

From Switzerland Johann Grobe deals a great junk shop krautrock that is hipster hypnotic and coolly mesmerising. If you go to his website there are some sound clips that are perfectly executed, almost museum piece, reconstructions of 70’s german underground. He has twisted them to add his own edge to the proceddings though.

Klaus Johann Grobe first came to our attention when their privately pressed Krautrock album landed on our desk with no clues as to its origin. Just one play had us hooked. The album sounded like a long lost holy grail private press and the screen printed sleeve certainly added to the feel. We just had to track them down, we needed to know the story; and so the search began.

Let’s just say that by the time we had tracked the album’s origin down to a young duo in Switzerland we were completely besotted. In fact we were so impressed that we bought the label!

new artist of the day : Johann Grobe

The uber cool Klaus Johann Grobe produced this Krautrock epic in total isolation without an eye on fame or monetary reward.  Sevi and Dani produced this simply for the love of music and then returned to their everyday lives.

Their sound is created organically with a full drum kit creating the bedrock of an ordered Germanic  beat. This is complimented by huge looping bass lines interplaying with organ and keyboard lines, with the final layer being the half sung, half spoken German vocal.

Klaus Johann Grobe will be coming to the UK for a short tour in February 2013 to promote the albums’ release:

20th February 2013: Wade Street Church, Lichfield

21st February 2013: Dulcimer, Manchester

22nd February 2013: Earthum @ The Ring O’Bells, Widnes

23rd February 2013: Mondo Fuzz @ Global Cafe, Reading
