Morrissey on #Piggate – calls for Cameron to resign if rumours are true

Morrissey Hull Arena September 18th 2015 3We were waiting for Morrissey to make his statement on #piggate – after all everyone else has.

Posting on his fan site True To You, the animal champion has issued a joint statement that is maybe with animal rights group PETA.
‘No, boys won’t be boys – not when it’s sexual perversion and also involves a vulnerable victim of slaughter, a feeling being who lost his or her life and then was used for a prank. Where have we seen other people in power misusing and sexually abusing corpses? This conduct is not excusable just because the perpetrator is prejudiced against and sneers at the other individual’s identity. A prime minister is supposed to protect the most vulnerable.

Most pigs in the UK already live lives filled with pain and fear, confined to severely crowded, filthy sheds and denied the opportunity to engage in any natural behaviour. They are routinely mutilated, usually without any anaesthetics, including castration and cutting off their tails and teeth. If the allegations made by Lord Ashcroft are true, that Mr Cameron performed a sexual act on a dead pig while at Oxford University, then it shows a callousness and complete lack of empathy entirely unbefitting a man in his position, and he should resign…’

  1. Some Are More Equal

As a vegan myself, I have plenty of sympathy with the condition of pigs and other animals in our evil factory farming systems. However I take exception to Morrissey banding about terms like “sexual perversion”. That is how homophobia and other similar prejudices were invented.

The unfortunate animal was clearly already deceased by the time of the incident and whatever happened to its remains afterwards could not worsen the situation (there is no evidence to suggest that pigs have any concept of a dignified funeral).

I notice that to date Morrissey has not called for any world leader to resign merely for *eating* meat, it took a world leader performing sexual acts on a (dead) animal to spring him into action.

I think this rant of Moz’s has nothing to do with his veggie principles and everything to do with a certain prudish intolerance of sexual minorities on his part. The fact that he (like myself) is LGBT+ clearly does not stop him holding such prejudices.
