Morrissey has been setting the internet chat rooms off again by his faintly non controversial thoughts on the Beatles. Much as we love the Beatles here it seems bizarre that any criticism of the fabs is greeted by much hand wringing and complaining … being a child of the 70s Morrissey quite possibly saw the Beatles as dusty old relics from some ancient age – out of sync with the glam times.
Billboard asked Moz…’Recently, the music world celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ landing in America. Were you particularly influenced, musically or otherwise, by the Fab Four?
I thought four of their songs were magnificent, and if a band can give you four magnificent songs then that’s good enough for me. But was I ever influenced by the Beatles? No.
We are left wondering which four songs he meant…
- We Can Work It Out- The song for Moz and and Johnny?
- Paperback Writer – a song about his marmite memoirs?
- You Never Give Me Your Money – another record label causing problems?
- Let it Be – despite calls for the Smiths to reform
Which songs do you reckon he means?
