Mogwai, the brilliant Scottish band whose esoteric instrumental passages have made them one of the key UK bands in past few years, has been forced to postpone the first five shows of their North American tour due being the latest band to have problems getting work visas for America.
The visa system which has become unworkable and costly has been causing many UK bands to cancel, postpone or lose parts of their American tours this year. For some reason it is still cheap and easy for American bands to come to the UK.
The Scottish band’s show at the 9:30 Club, along with shows in Philadelphia, New York and Boston have now been pushed back to October, according to a statement from the band.
The rescheduled dates will follow the band’s scheduled appearance at the All Tomorrow’s Parties-curated “I’ll Be Your Mirror” event in early October.
Visa issues also recently caused problems and scheduled South By Southwest performances by several artists including The Raveonettes, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Those Dancing Days and Young Legionnaire.
