Erica Nockalls: my top 5 albums

Marilyn Manson – Antichrist Superstar

I remember the first time I heard this and happily my life hasn’t been the
same since. I didn’t know what the word ‘production’ meant when I was 14,
but hearing those alien frequencies, progressive structural arrangements and
snarly intelligent poetic ‘anti’ lyrics was like nectar to me.  This music
had a powerful brazen authority to it that as a teen I lapped up. Sonically
I found Antichrist Superstar to be the most pleasing thing I’d ever heard.
Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails fame produced this album and I’m a fan of
his work as a result of loving this record. Now, further down the line, I
know what a producer’s job is and I remain in awe of this record from both a
production and musician’s point of view. It all hit the spot, and 17 years
later it still does.
