4. Prince – Sign O’ The Times

I don’t care much for any of Prince’s releases before this album and there’s
only it’s follow up, ‘Lovesexy’, that I have time for beyond it. The variety
in this album’s production is utterly remarkable and it came along just as
we were learning how to translate the sound of our band, from the stages of
the clubs and colleges that we were playing in the late ’80’s to the
multi-track recording studios we were then discovering. To this day, when
either recording The Wonder Stuff, or any other production projects that I
might be lucky enough to work on, there is always a point in a session where
the phrase “What would Prince do?” is raised.
