Martin Bramah’s top 10 favourite albums : number 2

2. The Stooges: Raw Power.

I bought this album as soon as it hit the shops, without even hearing it.

I got it home, slapped it on the turntable and… my first impression was: well it’s ok, a bit like Alice Cooper meets The Rolling Stones but rougher – but then there was something about that singer’s voice, that primal scream – plus that demented guitar work. Within a couple of weeks I was declaring this to be my all time favourite album!

The Stooges became a whole way of life to me – lived from the gut – they called it ‘Punk’.

Which just goes to show you should always give music a little extra time to reveal itself – don’t be too quick to dismiss stuff, kids!
