Unknown-15We are sorry to report the death of Marlene Marder the great guitarist/bassist of the great early eighties Swiss post punk band Kleenex who had to change their name to Lilliput due to Kleenex putting the pressure on.

The band were firm John Peel faves and one of the great post punk bands with their stripped down clipped sound that sounds as modern today as when we first heard it all those years ago when Peel first played them on his show and we rushed to town to buy the single. They were a truly innovative and brilliant band who took the energy of punk and created their own distinctive music out of it and broke the gender rules of the rock rugby club by being yet another inspiring new great all women band and also coming from a country where no-one had any idea there was any post punk action.

Originally from Zurich, the group formed in 1978 they were built around the core of Guitarist/bassist Marlene Marder and bassist/guitarist Klaudia Schifferle and were in action until 1983 releasing some great songs and touring with bands such as Spizzenergi, The Raincoats and Gang of Four.

  1. Very sad.
Remember snapping up the only copy of Eisiger Wind in Wrexham and being the envy of the school “post-punk cool crew”.

  2. One of those bands who scream ‘john peel’ in the late 70 ‘s, abrasive even when listened to today. You wont see a kleenex /lilliput tribute band….. At least I hope not….. The real deal
