We are saddened to hear of the death of Mark Keds.
A key presence on the music scene for decades with mercurial talent and waif like presence, The former frontman of the Senseless Things had been playing in his new band Deadcuts before the pandemic hit.
I knew him well and my band the Membranes played with various of Mark’s groups and have fond memories of those gigs. In fact I was having a healthy debate with him about the virus and various ideas of why and how it was here only a few weeks ago on Twitter. A talented and charismatic presence on the scene with a waif-like presence and a melodic gift he will be missed.
He had a songwriting gift and a boundless energy that saw him create many great songs and bands that soundtracked so many teenage years.
Senseless Things formed in 1986 and released four albums and achieved two UK Top 20 hit singles before splitting up in 1995. Senseless Things reformed in 2017 to play several gigs. After that band he formed Jolt who were underrated with their combination of drum and bass drums and guitar melodies. He also had a key hand in writing the Libertines class ‘can’t stand me now’.
His current band Deadcuts were making a good name for themselves with a continuation of this quicksilver and beautiful talent.
