We are saddened to hear of the death of Mark Keds.

A key presence on the music scene for decades with mercurial talent and waif like presence, The former frontman of the Senseless Things had been playing in his new band Deadcuts before the pandemic hit.

I knew him well and my band the Membranes played with various of Mark’s groups and have fond memories of those gigs.  In fact I was having a healthy debate with him about the virus and various ideas of why and how it was here only a few weeks ago on Twitter. A talented and charismatic presence on the scene with a waif-like presence and a melodic gift he will be missed.

He had a songwriting gift and a boundless energy that saw him create many great songs and bands that soundtracked so many teenage years.

Senseless Things formed in 1986 and released four albums and achieved two UK Top 20 hit singles before splitting up in 1995. Senseless Things reformed in 2017 to play several gigs. After that band he formed Jolt who were underrated with their combination of drum and bass drums and guitar melodies. He also had a key hand in writing the Libertines class ‘can’t stand me now’.

His current band Deadcuts were making a good name for themselves with a continuation of this quicksilver and beautiful talent.

  1. Absolute nuisance of a chap. Heroine addict. Selfish beyond belief. Glad he’s gone! Delighted in fact. Please stop with the sadness. The world’s a better place.

    • Jealous are we? Because no-one will notice or care when you pop off this mortal coil? What a tragic waste of oxygen you are.

      • Not jealous of a talentless junkie waster who hurt so many people including his mum. Selfish kant. Left some of us with an almighty mess to clean up not to mention the cost of it. Typical of that guy.

          • Slacker (appropriate name) In musical terms he was probably more talented but surely a wasted talent??. Drug abuse saw to that. No friends, No money, No job, No band since early 90’s to speak of, his mammy paying his bills and debts till the day he died, draining the benefits system for years and a trail of destruction behind him. What a trooper! I guess if you admire him you have set you bar as low as he did! A very sad state of affairs. I did more work yesterday than he did since the senseless things broke up.

    • It is indeed a sad state of affairs that you’ve been so triggered by the passing of someone who you claim to care so little about, you absolute loser.

  2. Slacker, I get that you want to make your point but in future you need to think about what you are trying to say. Maybe change your name too because nobody will take you seriously. Just saying.
