Maker – Girl Quit Your Crying – EP review
Maker – Girl Quit Your Crying (Kidda Records)
Summer’s on its way out and evenings are drawing in, but there’s still some sparkle in the murk – Rochester rock band Maker have released their second EP, Girl Quit Your Crying, featuring five new tracks. Just as good as their first, this EP has some impressive production by Nick Brine, accredited with producing Oasis, Stone Roses, Ash and Teenage Fanclub, plus tracks recorded at the world-famous Rockfield Studio (which can also casually name-drop both Stone Roses and Oasis). From the languorous, blues-sodden head-nodder of a lead track, opening out into pure vintage 60s/70s rock dipping into and refurbishing the sounds of Faces, Deep Purple, Free, each track is well put together and meticulously tight, showcasing the talents of these four Kentish lads. Or is it lads of Kent. Whichever, if your taste is a bit retro then this is essential listening.
Maker are Alessandro Marinelli (Vocals), Andrew Donaldson (Guitar), Gavin Donaldson (Drums) & John Austin (Bass)
