Howard Devoto was one of the first people to create punk in the UK with Buzzcocks and definitely the first person to leave the punk movement in January 1977. The band he formed, Magazine bust onto the scene with one of the great single of the time, ‘Shot By Both Sides’, helped move punk into post punk and made a series of great idiosyncratic records before imploding. Their comeback a couple of years ago was warmly received and the new album sounds promising with one interesting track already aired live.
