In a digital version of ‘down with this sort of thing’ Instagram has been banning nudity on it’s social media streams.

In these increasingly censored times social networking has been at the frontline of controversy with many people reporting bans and suspensions for exposing flash. For the social networks it could be case of preventing them turning into porn channels for the users it can be a frustrating censorship of what they perceived was their own personal space.

Madonna made a stance over the weekend and become the latest high profile figure to question the rules over nudity on Instagram and other social media websites.

Last Thursday she had a breast exposing she removed because it violated their rules regarding nudity on the site. Always an interesting one this as the internet is full of male nipples!

Madonna returned with the same shot but her breast blacked out and with the caption “Why is it ok to show ass but not breasts? Drowning in the hypocrisy of social media #artforfreedom #UnapologeticbItch #rebelheart”

Are the social networks right? is it cheap porn? is sex still scary? are our bodies still taboo? or do we have a right to stick what we want up there? Instagram removed shot of woman with a period stain on her trousers – what’s that about?
