Hey hey we're the Lurkers! an account of the classic punk band from the frontline

Book available from here.

The Lurkers were one of the first UK punk bands and released a series of great Ramones influenced records in the 1977/78 punk rock meltdown.

The songs stand the test of time with their razor sharp melodies and buzzsaw guitars and the band have become one of the cult icons of the period loved by people as diverse as Stuart Pearce and Henry Rollins.

This book is an account of their history from the frontline written by drummer Pete ‘Manic Esso’ Haynes who’s adrenalised account gives a perfectly accurate account of the chaos and excitement of the times from the frontline.

  1. This book is brilliant-classic warts n all story of a ‘lower-league’ Punk band!

  2. Saw them play the Mecca Ballroom, Blackpool 30 years ago
    Great gig !!

  3. Now I have to read the book. They were a great band.

  4. ‘God’s Lonely Men’ is an ABSOLUTE classic.

  5. i read this book last year and i would highly recommend it to anyone interested in that great 76/77 early punk era. Where it appears to be so unique compared with similar memoirs is the way the writer really seems to ‘bare his soul’. This is not the usual tale of pseudo-macho high jinks but a really honest account of an apparently fairly discontented bloke who sought some kind of salvation from Punk rock. It is also a welcome departure from the truly ‘over told’ tale of the Pistols/Clash. I personally didn’t reckon much to the Lurkers, they were OK, but certainly nothing special but their role in the 1977 explosion is really important as are similar stature bands. Pete Haynes seems like a really nice, genuine geezer and his tale is well worth telling, he is certainly not a rock star and it would appear that he genuinely never wanted to be one unlike so many of his less sincere contemporaries.

  6. I simply wanted to appreciate you again. I am not sure what I would’ve gone through without the type of tricks shared by you about my question. Previously it was a horrifying case in my opinion, but spending time with the professional fashion you handled that took me to leap with happiness. Now i’m happy for the assistance and even trust you realize what a great job you happen to be putting in instructing the others through the use of a site. I know that you have never got to know any of us.
