LTW announce gigs in Blackpool ft Jekyll, The Novus, Rosa Canina
Despite the C-19 crisis LTW are supporting the live music scene:
Louder Than War Presents: Jekyll – The Novus – Rosa Canina
The Waterloo Music Bar, Blackpool
Thursday 8th October 2020
Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Blackpool is emerging as one of the few locations able to regularly host live music events; only last week we reported on the new Almost Acoustic Club, held at The Winter Gardens – organisers there have confirmed forthcoming gigs from both Dave Sharp and T.V Smith. Full details via the LTW News.
The Waterloo Music Bar has already hosted a number of live Covid compliant gigs, and as of next week Louder Than War has jumped on board in an effort to support and raise the event profile.
The first joint gig features Jekyll, The Novus, and Rosa Canina
Advance tickets are on sale now: Tickets / Info This is a limited capacity gig (100). There will be social distancing rules to ensure the safest possible environment while maintaining the unique experience of a live gig.
The audience will be seated at tables of 4 or 6 – please try to get a group together and fill the tables to capacity.
“This is a band willing to uncover the darkness and show that we all have some unnerving qualities we hide” – Louder Than War
Since their 2013 inception, Jekyll, a thrilling and hard-hitting four-piece from the North West of England, have been unrelenting in their dedication to creating and performing music.
Originally all from Blackpool, the members of Jekyll now live in Liverpool, Manchester and Blackpool and perform regularly around the North of England. Taking inspiration from a wide and eclectic pool of influences, Jekyll’s music is known for its expansive, melancholic soundscapes, dynamic mood shifts and visceral intensity. Likened to artists such as Muse, Radiohead, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins, Editors and Depeche Mode, critics and audiences love the band for their ambition, originality and professionalism.
Birmingham based Art-Punk band – The Novus are their own breed of excitement.
The 3 lads, henchmen: Guardians of their own music. Hard hitting drums pave the way for the revolution as they push against the walls with their guitars, making 2 sound like 12 in the smallest of rooms or the greatest of stadiums – creating a wall of encapsulating sound.
Fronted by ringleader, Connor, who has the ability to to captivate any audience, forcing them to explode with his infectious energy. When he isn’t jumping round like a maniac he’s holding his haunting gaze over the crowd, almost indoctrinating them, spitting his lyrics like the gospel.
Four North-West musicians have emerged, dripping in Northern Noir, from their drummer, Ben’s, childhood bedroom. Rosa Canina present: grubby fuzz, stiletto slide and bizarro wonk.
We spoke to event organiser Neil about the background to these gigs.
“I have known John Robb for some time through my proper job as manager of the Blackpool HMV store. John had played in store with Goldblade and The Membranes, and I organised their top of the tower gig, and gig on a tram to Fleetwood and back!
When The Membranes played The Waterloo in July 2019 I discussed putting on ‘new music’ gigs at the venue in association with LTW.
The first, and biggest so far, LTW Presents… gig featured The Lathums and Dirty Laces with 250+ attending (a result for a new music gig in Blackpool!)
Since then we have had similar events with Callow Youth and Reclaim Vienna last December, Walt Disco, Cold Water Swimmers and Permo in January before lockdown delayed our latest attempts.”
Next one after this is next year with RATS, The Jade Assembly and Reardon Love – a strong line up in my opinion, but ticket sales weren’t great for the original date before we had to reschedule. I am determined to wake people up, and get them to trust that these events guarantee some of the best up and coming bands.
