Louder Than War Exclusive: Gentlemen’s Dub Club – Give It Away

Today Louder Than War are stoked to be able to bring you a premiere of the new single by hotly-tipped Leeds based nine-piece Gentlemen’s Dub Club, a combo who, as the name suggests, specialise in dub, ska and roots reggae. The group have been making quite a name for themselves on account of the barnstorming live sets that they’ve been playing up & down the country, wooing fans left right & centre.

Give It Away is a stonking single guaranteed to get the the dance floor moving. It opens synth heavy, demanding your attention via a siren. The track then builds up to an unrelenting crescendo of Jah heavy grooves. Sure as eggs is eggs by the time it finishes you’ll be “lord ah mercying” & “blessing up” in your best Jamaican patois.

Quoting from the press release:

“Spawned from the vibrant musical community in Leeds in 2006, the band cite fellow Leedsians Iration Steppas, plus Capleton, The Abyssinians, Culture, Twinkle Brothers, Wayne Smith, Augustus Pablo and Scientist as influences. But, you’re just as likely to find them digging jazz, soul, garage, house, jungle or electronica, to which the various other projects the band are involved attests – most notably Submotion Orchestra drummer Tommy Evans and Toby Davies, AKA Planas.”

Fans of the band include Radio 1Xtra & Radio 2 DJ David “Ramjam” Rodigan, Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank & 6 Music’s Don Letts – something which not only proves that reggaes much loved across the board but also suggests the band have all bases covered!

Give It Away precedes the bands highly-anticipated debut album ‘Forty Four’ which is coming out this autumn & is expected, like their last EP, Open Your Eyes, to be a no. 1 & mainstay in the reggae charts.

Guy is a former full time member of the Louder Than War editorial team, who's since moved on to pastures new. Music's been a large part of his life since he first stumbled across Peel on his tranny as a fifteen year old. His whole approach to music was learnt from Peel in fact, which includes having as inclusive a taste in music as possible. Guy devotes most of his time looking for new music & although he's been known to say "the only good music is new music" he pretty much accepts this is bollocks. Favourite band The Minutemen.
