London Buffalo Bar to close- another key venue bites the dust

London’s Buffalo Bar, an important venue supporting independent bands and promoters is to close.
The key small capacity venue that has broken so many bands in the city in the last 14 years and provided a place where DIY promoters have put on 1000’s of bands and DJ nights, is closing on News Years’ Eve 2014.

New landlords have taken over and given notice that the bar must close although what they plan to do with the space, below The Famous Cock pub next to Highbury and Islington station, remains unclear.

A statement from the Buffalo Bar was released earlier today:

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the imminent closure of the Buffalo Bar.
We have been served a very short notice period from our new landlords, after being here for over 14 years. They remain undecided what to do with our space. It will remain closed for the foreseeable future.”

It continued…

“…after all this time, we will be hosting our final event on New Years Eve, 2014.
This night will serve as a fundraiser for our full time staff, who find themselves without a job just before Christmas. For anyone wants to come down and say goodbye, now is the time. In the meantime, we are putting together a few memorable shows, with some of our favourite bands from down the years, starting with Subways on 3rd December. Further events will be announced on our Twitter and Facebook pages.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved with us; All the promoters, the DJs, the many thousands of bands and, of course, all the staff who’ve pitched in over the years.”

Events continue for the rest of November and December with tonight and tomorrow’s events showing what an eclectic and vibrant place The Buffalo is for music; Eureka California, Radstewart and Skinny Girl Diet play live tonight and tomorrow (Fri 14th Nov) its Great Big Kiss – Soul Special, with Guest DJ Andy Lewis

The Buffalo Bar’s closure is also yet another dent in the national touring circuit after news that Liverpool’s much loved Kazimier is set to close as well.
