Listen! Warp Records announce 10 year anniversary issues of three Gravenhurst albums – stream The Citizen now

This year GRAVENHURST (the Bristol based singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Nick Talbot) will be celebrating a decade of work on Warp Records by reissuing two classic albums, ‘Flashlight Seasons’ and ‘Black Holes In The Sand’, as well releasing an additional new album: ‘Offerings: Lost Songs 2000 – 2004’, a compilation of unreleased material from that period. Details below, along with a stream of the track The Citizen.

Over the last decade Talbot’s musical output has been diverse but always focussed around his fragile yet powerful voice, intricate guitar work and mysterious lyrical themes. His love of feedback is also well known, especially to those who see him play live, not least when he goes in on traditional set closer Black Holes In The Sand which invariably ends in “…quaking feedback, electronic pulsations and pounding ceremonial drums; a sonic evocation of the forces of nature.”

The two reissued albums are Gravenhurst’s first two Warp releases, Flashlight Seasons, which quickly earned GRAVENHURST a reputation as a unique talent and one of the most original British singer-songwriters and producers of his generation. The other is the noisier and more overtly lo-fi record of dark pastoral psychedelia, ‘Black Holes In The Sand.

These two reissues are complemented by a surprise new release, Offerings: Lost Songs 2000 – 2004, which is a collection of previously unheard recordings which resulted from an archival search for extra material to accompany the reissues as digital downloads. The unexpected discoveries were, however, quickly deemed worthy of an exclusive release. They are comprised of two early demos (that differ from album versions in intriguing ways) and eight previously unheard songs. The result is “a carefully selected and coherent collection.”

The three albums will be pressed on vinyl accompanied with digital download codes, essays by Nick reflecting on this early material after a decade of progress, and a limited run of hand-made and signed lino-cut prints which will be made available to the first 200 customers who buy all three albums on vinyl through A triple CD release will comprise all three albums.

Guy is a former full time member of the Louder Than War editorial team, who's since moved on to pastures new. Music's been a large part of his life since he first stumbled across Peel on his tranny as a fifteen year old. His whole approach to music was learnt from Peel in fact, which includes having as inclusive a taste in music as possible. Guy devotes most of his time looking for new music & although he's been known to say "the only good music is new music" he pretty much accepts this is bollocks. Favourite band The Minutemen.
