Wuzi

Leeds-based peddlers of atmospheric grunge Wuzi drop ambitious and atmospheric new single Big Noose, taken from their most recent EP Severed Head.

As far as Leeds goes, anyone whose ever spent more than a couple of days in the city will be able to you that despite its ever-growing gentrification, it’s never been one to shy away from its gritter side. This is something its music scene has managed to reflect effortlessly; spearheading a movement of grunge, psych and garage rock bands that shows no sign of slowing down. Wuzi are one such band, who, despite being together for less than two years, headlined Indie Week in Toronto, as well as playing at Liverpool’s Sound City, Live in Leeds and sharing the stage with the likes of Strange Bones, Fizzy Blood, Fangclub, Scarlet Sails and many more. On top of this they’ve already released several singles and an EP.

The band’s most recent single, Big Noose, is taken from their recently released Severed Head EP, and is arguably their most ambitiously nuanced release to date. Managing to feel both airy and claustrophobic the sense of spacial experimentation is matched only by the band’s willingness to experiment with dynamics. Bridging the gap between shoegaze and grunge, its a track that will appeal to fans of Allusondrugs or October Drift, and you can stream it below:
