Kiss, the most plastic and fake rock band of all time have bizarrely branded modern pop acts as ‘fake’

Maybe they were taking this piss or maybe they were drumming up publicity for an upcoming double header tour with Motley Crue round the sheds of the USA but the Kiss rant about modern music being ‘fake’ is somewhat ironic.

Missing the point that most people liked Kiss because of their show and not their music the interview does rock few favours making it look like griping old men in silly costumes…

Tellingly bassist Gene Simmons doesn’t seem to approve of the opposite sex dominating the stadiums

“We’re sick and tired of girls getting up there with dancers and karaoke tapes in back of them,” Simmons said. “No fake bullshit. Leave that to the Rihanna, Shmianna and anyone who ends their name with an ‘A.’

Kiss are famous for wearing clown outfits and selling tickets for their circus more than their music.

Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee seconded Simmons’ strong opinions.

“No disrespect to Rihanna, she’s a great singer, but we’re in a slump for some shit that has some personality and appeal beyond a bunch of pop stuff that’s floating around out there,” he told Billboard.com. “I’m glad he said that actually because I don’t think i can bear watching another f***ing award show that is just a little bit better than ‘American Idol.’ It’s f***ing pathetic to watch people go out and f***ing karaoke with a bunch of lights and video. It’s all completely watered down.”

“More guitars? There can’t ever be enough,” Motley Crue’s Mick Mars told Billboard.com, asked if the touring world needed a shot of rock. “I’d have 15,000 guitar players on stage.”

The myth that rock is struggling continues but it can’t be helped with this kind of talk…

  1. Another week, another whinge about the state of music from some superannuated former megastars. Why does anyone even bother reporting the whiney ramblings of these sad old men? Gene Simmons is 62 years old, I’m sure Rihanna and her fans are quaking in their stilettos at the fact that some grizzled old grandad isn’t into what they do…

  2. Not sure Gene Simmons age is particularly relevant? I have heard far younger people say similar.

not me though, I’m still right cool and trendy.
