Kendal Calling logoGet ready for the greatest festival in the North West with our preview of what’s not to miss at Kendal Calling 2014.

It’s one of our favourite festivals in the summer festival so despite the forecast for rain here at Louder Than War we’re turning our excitement up a notch and planning out the must-see sets of Kendal Calling 2014.

Set amongst the rolling parkland of Lowther Deer Park in Cumbria this year’s theme is Beyond the Stars and the festival team have already teased us with shots of a certain Doctor’s blue box nestled beneath the ancient trees. Keeping with the theme the Luna 9 stage has been added to the attractions, offering an immersive Planatarium-style stage for electronic acts and special performances, including a play back of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.

The main stage will bring in headliners Suede, Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls and Example but if the big acts aren’t your thing there is everything from 2ManyDJs to Bird to Louder Than War signings Evil Blizzard and our own editor John Robb performing with The Membranes.

Who will we be making sure we catch across the weekend? There are plenty of newer and North West bands we want to make sure we don’t miss including The Gramotones, Tea Street Band, Bird, The Lottery Winners and Phoney’s and Freaks.

We’ll also be catching DJ sets from Mint Royale, Wigan Young Souls and Tim Burgess (spinning some tunes on Sunday night in his own Tim Peaks Diner on the site).

Also not to miss are De La Soul, Jimi Goodwin, Miles Kane, Ella Eyre, Albert Albert, Frightened Rabbit, Frankie and the Heartstrings, Woman’s Hour, Happy Mondays and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

So come rain or shine, Louder Than War will see you in the fields…

Kendal Calling takes place between 1 and 3 August at Lowther Deer Park in Cumbria. For the latest information follow them on Twitter.
