The Karma Repair Kit

Stag & Hounds, Bristol

26th January 2016

The Stag & Hounds on Old Market is undoubtedly one of the best live venue pubs in Bristol and every January it offers a month long festival of free live music. Tonight, I headed down there to see one of Bristol’s best new bands, The Karma Repair Kit.

I have been listening to them a lot over the last few months since the release of superb debut single, ‘Your Restless Spirit’. Their music rides a waves of influences without ever becoming derivative. Shades of shoegaze here, flickers of grunge there and all topped with the powerful vocal presence of singer/guitarist, Jamie Thomas.

Tonight’s show is a quick six song set showcasing the new material the band have been working on. Four new songs that are perfectly crafted slices of alt rock, high on melody low on bullshit, tight groove ridden songs that highlight the attention to production coming from the band but especially guitarist/producer Alex Hill. The new songs, ‘Bite’, Irriversible’, ‘Moodswinger’ & ‘No Exit’ are punchier and sound more influenced by 90’s West coast rock bands such as The Screaming Trees rather than their more psyche infused material such as the single, ‘Your Restless Spirit’ which they play as well as ‘Holy Operator’ after much hooting and hollering from the crowd.

The Karma Repair Kit will be playing the BBC6 Music Festival Fringe in Bristol on the 13th Feb at the Stage and Hounds & the 14th Feb at the Louisiana. Also check them out on these links.
