Manchester based punk rock band Goldblade xmas single with the late and brilliant Poly Styrene on vocals in a Spector tinged duet recorded just before the great Poly died …
The song City Of Christmas Ghosts was recorded with Poly Styrene five years ago. It was a minor hit then but in the last few weeks according to the band “out of the blue, people started downloading it again and kept telling us to get it out properly because it’s a classic. That was very nice of them. So we have done.”
The song is about thinking of lost friends at Xmas time and is has an added poignancy because the wonderful Poly, who was very good friends with the band, died not long after recording her great vocal on the track. So it’s got an added sadness to it now with the song dedicated to Poly and the profits going to St Michaels Hospice, Brighton, who cared for Poly prior to her passing, as well as to her favourite anti-war and animal charities.
The Goldblade Ft. Poly Styrene charity Xmas single is being re-released on the 9th December 2013
