John Cooper Clarke records album of him singing classics with Hugh Cornwell
A few years ago Louder Than War boss, John Robb, had the honour of spending a post gig evening in a bar in Belfast with the great John Cooper Clarke. The poet laureate got on stage and sang a set of finger clicking classics with a couple of local swing players. His baritone voice sounded amazing and he was the king of cool.
Now we are thrilled to hear the news that he has recorded a an album of 1950s classics like ‘Jezebel’ by Frankie Laine and ‘Love Potion No.9’ [Leiber and Stoller], ‘MacArthur Park’ [Jimmy Webb] as well as’Donny’ by Ritchie Valens which is due out before xmas.
The former Strangler, Hugh Cornwell, plays the music and produces the album in what sounds like a great project.
