Back when we had no rhythm machine or sampler, I used to practice by playing guitar along to this record, thinking of phrases that could dance over top of the accurate and inorganic beat. I also listened a lot to Neu! and Can German prog records. I used to listen to all kinds of music without thinking about genre or categories. I was quite a record collector.
