Care Less, Love Less

(Endearment Records)

15th July 2016

Emerging solo artist James Leonard Hewitson has announced the forthcoming release of his debut single Care Less, Love Less. Ex trumpet player in Frankie & The Heartstrings, Hewitson is going solo with this his first release. Combined with clever word play and laid back lyricism and vocals, Hewitson conjures up such influences as anti-folk legends Joie/ Dead Blond Girlfriend and Adam Green. Hewitson’s unique style provides a fresh take on slacker pop, with soothing vocals and fuzzy guitars creating a sumptuous sound crafted to perfection. This debut release is produced by Chris McManus.

From the afore mentioned description you would expect something lo-fi and possibly twee. But what you get from this debut from Hewitson is BIG orchestration and BIG sounds not unlike the solo output of Richard Ashcroft. With his confident and laid back delivery, Hewitson treads a lovely fine line between a big wall of orchestration and guitar noise, and an understated delivery. Nice music and a pleasant surprise.
