The Louder Than War! 'It was better under Thatcher' Noel Gallagher misquoted by the Mail

This weekend’s interview with Noel Gallagher in the Mail On Sunday has caused an Internet meltdown.

In the article Noel Gallagher was as forthright as ever about the riots, his disalusion  with the Labour party and also how ‘things were better under Margeret Thatcher’ the last quote seems to be saying that, as a reaction to Thatcher great art was made. The Mail On Sunday, of course, twists this into a more pro Thatcher angle and so have the Twitterati.

Somehow Gallagher’s views were twisted into a pro Thatcher rant from the newspaper that recently felt the wrath of Ian Brown’s  tongue at the recent Stone Roses press conference.

Unusually for Noel he has taken to his blog to clarify the accusations, stating.

‘I’ve read the story and I must say it’s very misleading; any great working class art, fashion, youth culture etc came to be IN SPITE of that woman and her warped right wing views and NOT BECAUSE of them.”

Gallagher concluded: “Also for the record, on the day that she dies we will party like it’s 1989. Just so you know.”
