Inspiral Carpets to collaborate with John Cooper Clarke

INSPIRALS TO COLLABORATE WITH JOHN COOPER CLARKE!
Over the past few months, the Inspiral Carpets have been recording and mixing their first studio album in twenty years, which will boast twelve new compositions. We can now exclusively reveal that one new track, ‘Let You Down’, boasts a unique collaboration with one of Britain’s most celebrated poets of all time, Salford’s John Cooper Clarke.
‘Let You Down’ might just be the Inspirals’ homage to ‘Gloria’, an intense slab of riffy garage psychedelia with shades of The Doors and a moody interlude in the middle. Once the idea of adding a spoken word element to said interlude was mooted, John Cooper Clarke was the obvious choice. From guesting with the Arctic Monkeys to appearing on Have I Got News For You, JCC has of late been taken to the nation’s hearts – but  the Inspirals, needless to say, have long been fans.
“We’re so privileged to be joined by John on this record,” says Clint.
“He was our only choice, really, when we started discussing getting a guest on ‘Let You Down’. He immediately accepted our invitation. He recorded his vocal in one take using lyrics he’d written especially for the track. We feel the result is monumental and, without doubt, one of our finest moments.”
Craig agrees: “The track has this long instrumental/repetitive riff with sparse lyrics which draw heavily on Northern imagery. This immediately made us think John would be ideal person to collaborate with on this song.”
The new album – which will be entitled simply Inspiral Carpets – is scheduled for release on Cherry Red Records in late September 2014. The LP is fanfared by a brand new single, “Spitfire”, which will be issued at the end of August. Both the video and the photo for the album cover were shot at Gorton Monastery.
Last Friday, 6th June, the Inspirals played at another local historic landmark, Manchester’s Band On The Wall – all 400 tickets for which sold out in a record ten minutes! The show was filmed for release on CD-DVD later this year. The BOTW show kickstarted a busy summer of live gigs and festival appearances for the Inspirals, including a performance this week at the Isle Of Wight Festival:
Friday 18 June: AZZANO X PORDENONE FESTIVAL, ITALY
Friday 11 July BEDFORD CORN EXCHANGE
