Louder Than War’s Andy Barding introduces us to Ming City Rockers whose debut single drops December 16.
Think you live in a shithole? Think again.
Ming City Rockers come from a town so inexcusably rubbish that its wiki page is no more than a long list of roads that you can use to get the hell out of the place. It’s called Immingham and its close-ish to Grimsby. And it’s bleak – unless you’re a petrochemical industry enthusiast, that is. Oh yeah. If you like your petrochemical plants, Immingham is the place for you.
Hardly surprising, then, that Ming City Rockers’ first single should take escape as its theme. The title speaks for itself, ‘I Wanna Get Out of Here But I Can’t Take You Anywhere’. And the video, shot in and around the band’s rehearsal room, confirms that these kids need our help. They don’t even have enough gaffer tape to complete the word ‘twat’ on their rehearsal room wall.
Anyway. The town may be dull but the band shines. And the single, a searing little belter of bluesy-punk mayhem, deserves a better home. Yours, maybe.
They play Huw Stephens’ night at the Social in London on December 10, but keep checking their website for more.
