I Am Kloot: Sheffield – live review

I Am Kloot
The Leadmill, Sheffield
April 13 2013

I Am Kloot are touring in support of their excellent new album ‘Let It All In’ and some of them have new glasses. For Louder Than War Alex Staszko went along and enjoyed the show.

This is the first date of I Am Kloot’s second UK tour in support of their recent ‘Hold Back The Night’ album and they’re playing a re-jigged set compared to the last tour. Set opener tonight is a magnificent version of ‘Let It All In’, all dark, mean, moody and beautiful, and it draws the crowd in from the first few bars. It’s hard to guess what sort of crowd Kloot draw, indeed it’s an audience of all ages tonight, and as the band noticed after the show, there was a lot of singing along that drew the crowd together.

Indeed it’s the best audience I’ve seen at an I Am Kloot gig for years. They laugh at singer John Bramwell’s jokes at all the right moments and float away at the beauty of songs such as, ‘Shoeless’, ‘Let Them All In’ & ‘Some Better Day’. The band’s new fuller sound is augmented by Alan, Tom & Nicky from The Earlies, as it has been for the last couple of years.

Its John’s first gig wearing his glasses, which confuses him as he can see the audience properly. He soon puts then on the floor and miraculously manages not to stand on them, despite his foot slipping from its familiar resting place, a beer crate!

The set draws from all the bands albums, particular standouts are ‘Northern Skies’ and ‘Radiation’, & a lovely solo ‘At The Sea’ mid set. Crowd pleaser ‘Proof’ ends the set before encores of early songs ‘Twist’, ‘From Your Favourite Sky’ and ‘To You’ which is dedicated to you.

Try and catch Kloot on this tour which continues, or on one of the summer festivals they are playing, as they’re still one of the best live bands around.

I Am Kloot’s music can be found on their website, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Soundcloud.
