Dedicated to Pussy Riot: Into The Light
DL
Out Now

As you’ll probably know two things we devoted a lot of space on Louder Than War last year to were Pussy Riot and Dandelion Radio. And it looks like that isn’t going to change much as we move into 2013 as, lo & behold, here comes a release combining both Pussy Riot AND Dandelion Radio. Read on for more details.

One of Dandelion Radio’s DJ’s, Mark Whitby, has compiled & released on his “Unwashed Territories” imprint a triple album dedicated to Pussy Riot and with the proceeds from the sale of which going to support the Free Pussy Riot cause. Mark has pulled together a shedload (54 constitutes a “shedload” in this case) of his favourite bands and artists from 2012 and got from them to provide him with one track a piece (many previously unreleased) which he’s compiled into three download only albums available for you to either grab for free if you’re a bit strapped for cash or to donate as large or small a sum as you possibly can.

Unless you’re already a fan of Mark’s show it’s unlikely you’ll have heard of many of the artists involved but rest assured each and every track is different to the next & I’m pretty sure that even if you don’t like all the tracks you’ll definitely some of them. Trust me, I’ve worked my way through all 54 tracks & there’s some seriously rad stuff here.

So if you want to support the twin causes of new music & freedom of speech in one fell swoop this is the release for you.

To quote from the Bandcamp page:

The album is dedicated to the Russian band Pussy Riot, whose members were jailed for two years for the ‘crime’ of protesting against Russian president Vladimir Putin in a Russian Orthodox church. Although one of the three members has now been released, the others remain incarcerated and all of those involved in this album support the campaign to secure their freedom.

All tracks have been kindly donated by the artists, bands and labels listed, with all proceeds going to The Voice Project. Any money you opt to donate will go towards supporting Pussy Riot’s campaign for justice and to supporting their familes while they’re in jail. Please feel free to grab the album for nothing and donate directly if you prefer.

If you like, you can by-pass the album and just make a donation to the campaign at The Voice Project. This project both funds the campaign for their release and also helps support their kids while they’re inside. But of course you’d be a fool to do so because lets face it, your next favourite band could be lurking away amongst these 54 tracks.

Read more about the album over at Mark’s website here.

Guy is a former full time member of the Louder Than War editorial team, who's since moved on to pastures new. Music's been a large part of his life since he first stumbled across Peel on his tranny as a fifteen year old. His whole approach to music was learnt from Peel in fact, which includes having as inclusive a taste in music as possible. Guy devotes most of his time looking for new music & although he's been known to say "the only good music is new music" he pretty much accepts this is bollocks. Favourite band The Minutemen.
