Independent Arts based radio station Radio Free Matlock is set to release a great looking compilation album to help raise funds. Run by a group of volunteers including Ashley Bird (ex-Kerrang! magazine editor) the station has been slowly gathering support from such people as BBC 6Music’s Mary Anne Hobbs and Electronic Sound Magazine.
With shows covering folk, jazz, classic rock and the more avant-garde (courtesy of our very own writer Simon Tucker) Radio Free Matlock has been growing a loyal and dedicated fanbase. This has been in some part thanks to the guests they have had on there including Electronic Sound Magazine editor Push and Graham Massey who chose to include the station in the promo for the first 808 State album in seventeen years.
As a community station, Radio Free Matlock’s whole organisation is achieved on a voluntary basis through individual donations and small arts council grants. However, despite this, they are continually looking to raise funds to help cover the rising costs of things such as their internet radio platform, PRS licensing, website presence etc.
“Audio Transmissions: Vol. 1” is part of those fundraising efforts with all of the artists featured having kindly donated a track of their own to support the station. The tracks include a variety of post-punk, rock, electronica and spoken word, with many of them hailing from the Derbyshire area including Alt-rock band ‘Damn Cargo’, former Derbyshire poet-laureate Helen Mort, Chesterfield based post-punk artist ‘My Pleasure’ and Chesterfield born Folk-Electronicaa artist Jayne Dent. Reeflecting the stations wider inclusivity there’s tracks from artists such as Welsh Electronic artist R.Seiliog and Manchester’s Scissorgun, the electronica project of Alan Hempsall and David Clarkson (see full tracklist below)
Every penny raised from the release will go towards helping to continue funding our station.
The album launches on Friday 8th November and will be available as a Digital release via Bandcamp. For further information make sure you visit the RFM site or follow them on Facebook and Twitter where they tweet as @RadioMatlock
