Music, Food, Literature and The Great Outdoors combine in great North Wales Festival

The Good Life Esperience, Hawarden Castle Estate, North Wales September 16th-18th 2016

Great things happen in North Wales all the time and this is certainly one of them. The brainchild of Cerys Matthews, Steve ‘Abbo’ Abbott, Charlie and Caroline Gladstone, The Good Life Experience is, as the name suggests, something to completely immerse yourself in and offers plenty for all the family, including any four-legged friends you may have.

In a world that isn’t always easy in which to find peace of mind, The Good Life Experience aims to offer a perfect form of escape and a retreat to a simpler way of life. There is a great music line-up that includes the eternally effervescent Dr John Cooper-Clark, Cerys Matthews, Fanfare Ciocarlia (who are apparently the best band Cerys Matthews has ever seen live), Stealing Sheep and DJ sets from Mercury Rev’s Jonathon Donahue and Giles Peterson. High energy Canadian Bluegrass outfit Gordie Mackeeman and His Rhythm Boys look set to get the joint jumping. DJ78 will certainly be worth a listen as he spins his collection of 78 rpm’s from the golden age of pre-pop music.

There will be hugely anticipated appearances from author Michael Morpurgo and Jeremy Vine who will be discussing the shift in wisdom away from ‘experts’ to the ordinary person.

Food and drink is a central element of the weekend and a host of experts are lined up including Thomasina Miers, Bill Granger and the Fabulous Baker Brothers. Also, the cult New York outfit Best Made Co, who sell the very best of everything required for an outdoor lifestyle, are flying in especially for the weekend.

There are a host of crafts with woodcraft, knot tying, campfire cooking displays and singing, pottery and a blacksmith just a flavour. Adventurer, writer and broadcaster Ben Fogle leads the focus on The Great Outdoors alongside Eroica Britannia cycling. You could always release your inner Robin Hoodl and have a go at archery or even axe throwing, and who hasn’t wanted to do that at some moments in their life?

The Good Life Experience is the complete ‘away from it all’ break so get the first air of autumn up your nose in North Wales and discover something completely new. You’ll be glad you did.
