When you have been to thousands of gigs but still retain the hunger for the new, a rare WTF moment is worth a million dollars.

Every now and then, at one of these music showcase events, you see band that changes your life.

A mesmerising, talismanic piece of magic that is beyond.

From Liverpool, Glove are that band.

Two wild painted women who turn music inside out and reinvent the wheel.

Focus Wales is fast becoming one of the key music showcase events in the UK and this year is up there with Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape in terms of bands and ambition.

Wrexham is a damp and old Welsh market town which still has actual pubs in it. With a surprisingly good arts scene and a new arts centre called Ty Pawb it is host to an international conveyer belt of bands in sweaty pub back rooms.

We walk into the back room of one pub to see our first band and our minds are blown by Glove – nothing is going to match these two wired women who are oozing art, poetry and a musical brilliance that sets your mind racing and your heart pounding.

Theres is a stripped down basic sound – rhythm comes from a pounding tom tom played against a bass or in other songs a scratchy guitar. It’s pounding and highly effective – most of the songs are given a running bass line backbone and the minimalistic  no wave combination is perfect for the poetry in motion of the vocals that switch between volumes of wild eyed beat poetry and stunningly sung vocal lines.

The songs follow no rules. There are no reference pints. It’s uttley original. You type out words like Patti Smith or The Slits but that’s lazy old man thinking.

Glove are the here and now.

Glove are the future.

They take these snips and shards of sound and create their own future. Their eyes are painted blue with thick make up. They are tribal and wild. They are dancing on the bones of rock N roll. Wild poets. Shamanic dancers with a new beat that you can dance to as well and they somehow turn the room of random punters into an ecstatic party with a brand new sound.

Glove are going to make a lot of noise.

Get into them now before everyone else does!
