Indiepop label Fortuna POP! has announced it will close its doors after trading as an independent imprint for twenty years.
Launched in 1995 by Sean Price the label has been a flagship for indiepop and post-punk and a home for bands including Martha, The Spook School, Evans the Death, Chorusgirl, Allo Darlin’, Milky Wimpshake, Darren Hayman, and Pete Astor.
Announcing the closure with a full page statement in the programme for last weekend’s Indietracks Festival Price wrote, “…Nothing lasts forever. After 20 years, 200 releases, a mountain of debt and very little sleep, Fortuna Pop! is drawing to a close.”
Fans and bands of the label have taken to social media to express their sadness at its passing. It celebrated its 20th Anniversary with a three day festival in Ramsgate during July.
