Folsom Prison reveals Johnny Cash trailSome walk the line, while others ride it. The city of Folsom has completed the first section of the “Johnny Cash Trail.” It pays tribute to the music icon and his 1968 album “At Folsom Prison.”

The overcrossing connects nearly 40 miles of the city’s urban trail system from old downtown to Folsom Lake.

“There’s some kind of beautiful connection between this and the prison, you know?” said the musician’s daughter, Rosanne Cash. “Just, to involve nature and healing and exercise.”

The overcrossing is designed to echo Folsom State Prison’s east guard towers.

The city is planning a $3 million fundraising drive to pay for a 2-acre park next to the bridge and art installations along the trail, including a 40-foot steel statue of Cash.
