Highly rated by the likes of Steve Lamacq, Clash Magazine (and us) City Reign are considered to be amongst the best on the live circuit with their own brand of guitar rock.
The debut has been recorded at Salford’s Sacred Trinity Church, which as well as providing ambience for the album is still in use as a place of worship.
The exclusive track we’ve got for you – Retaliate – gives a taste of what’s to come from the album.
Frontman Chris Bull says: “It’s probably the most spontaneous song lyrically. An old demo had been floating around where I just made stuff up on the spot. I ended up using most of it, which is unusual for me as I usually take ages writing and re-writing things. I think that spontaneity gives that honesty, almost stream-of-consciousness feel to the rhythm and the melodyâ
Guitarist Mike Grice says: “Listening to the original demo, I could hear the string arrangement in my head. I scored it and gave to our friend Maya Kashif, who then gave the chorus a different non traditional score that makes it stand out so much.”
