The Orb Lee Scratch Perry Mix

The Orb Lee Scratch Perry Mix

We’ve got a treat for you today in the form of an exclusive mix by The Orb’s Alex Paterson. The mix includes tracks by The Orb feat Lee Scratch Perry & The Orb on their ownas well as some really great tracks by the likes of Paul White, Royksopp, the phenomenal J Dilla & The Quakers amongst others. It’s a little over an hour in length &, it goes without saying, is splendid.

We’re also using the mix to herald the imminent release (June 3rd) of another album by The Orb Featuring the mercurial genius that is Mr Lee Scratch Perry. You’ll remember of course that last year The Orb dropped a stunning album in collaboration with Scratch, a man (genius, even) who’d been a long time inspiration for The Orb. Titled The Observer in the Star House it deservedly featured quite highly in every right thinking persons “albums of the year” charts. Like ours for instance.

Exclusive DJ Mix from Alex Paterson of The OrbIt seems, however, that the sessions that spawned the album actually produced a lot more material & rather than keeping it tucked away gathering digital dust somewhere it’s getting a separate release all of it’s own in an album to be released next month titled “‘More Tales From The Orbservatory’. The album will also feature new instrumental versions of some of the tracks too.

Quoting from the press release Alex Paterson said:

“I had an amazing time being that close to the great man”. “The mighty Lee Scratch Perry is a pioneer who expresses the future within the present times of anguish, hope and unity. Looking back now those spontaneous jams we did became the most successful tunes, in that they were created under the influence of the situation. They all had a powerful, magic drive we felt was owed to a truly inspiring collision of our three planets.”

The mouth-watering potential of a legendary master working with long-time acolytes who tuned into his unique wavelength long ago continues to blossom and explodes again on ‘More Tales From The Orbservatory’.

The album’s out on June 3rd on Cooking Vinyl and you can pre-order a copy via the Amazon widget below.

The Orb also headline The Playground Festival on Saturday 8th June @ Brixton Academy, alongside Squarepusher, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Ryan Hemsworth, Nathan Fake, OM Unit and Lapalux. Tickets for this can be bought here.

Guy is a former full time member of the Louder Than War editorial team, who's since moved on to pastures new. Music's been a large part of his life since he first stumbled across Peel on his tranny as a fifteen year old. His whole approach to music was learnt from Peel in fact, which includes having as inclusive a taste in music as possible. Guy devotes most of his time looking for new music & although he's been known to say "the only good music is new music" he pretty much accepts this is bollocks. Favourite band The Minutemen.
