CD / DL / LP

Out October 21st

They may’ve been going since 1969 but Chicago Illinois American Funk band Earth Wind and Fire can still pull out all the stops – and do just that on this, their latest release.

Well, who’d have thought it? The British Summer returned with a vengeance and much to our delight, the long days were filled with blue skies, sunshine and ice cream. Our nights were humid but relaxing, spent with ice cold drink in hand, hanging out in cool bars and roof gardens, grooving out to the sound of Disco. Thanks to the success of Daft Punk’s Get Lucky the uber cool sound of the late 70’s & early 80’s has returned and with it it’s brought back memories of Studio 54, Chic, Spangly Stage Outfits and of course Earth Wind & Fire.

Who could fail to remember their seminal disco anthem Boogie Wonderland featuring The Emotions released back in 1979. In its full length, energy sapping 12” version it ran for Nine minutes and Twenty One seconds and gave you the perfect opportunity to hit the dance floor and in the dazzling light of the mirror ball show off your Travolta moves to that cute, blonde eyed lovely in the sequin dress that you’d been eyeing up all night.

Now, Then & Forever marks the band’s return after an absence of 8 years. Still comprising just the 14 members including stalwarts Maurice & Verdine White and Philip (Easy Lover) Bailey it’s incredible to think that Earth Wind & Fire have been going for nearly 45 years. I doubt current chart botherers One Direction will have such staying power (ahem).

So what of this new release which hits the shops on next week?

“The Now, Then & Forever album is really about the legacy of Earth, Wind & Fire”, said co-founder Philip Bailey. “The spirit of the band has always been about uplifting the consciousness of humanity. There’s a hope that this Earth, Wind & Fire music will go on forever.”

With 10 new tracks to savour the original pioneers of soul-funk-fusion are back to show these young disco mavericks just how it’s done and give us their loyal fans something truly special to round off this glorious summer.

For a limited time, fans will be able to pre-order Now, Then & Forever at A pre-order of the album allows the fans to have their personal names printed in the album’s final CD package.

“The album gave us the opportunity to tie everything together musically and culturally,” said EWF’s co-founder Verdine White. “Without the support of the fans around the world, the Earth, Wind & Fire journey would not have been possible. We dedicate this album, Now, Then & Forever, to all the fans.”

With the sun still shining and the party season almost on us, perhaps it’s time to break out those sparkly outfits once more and bust a move out on the floor?  Let’s groove tonight!!
