– new video for one of the coolest love-songs you’ll hear this year…

Hopefully you have read my Louder Than War review of the Dream Syndicate new album How Did I Find Myself Here? – (It’s out on Friday 8th September by the way)

The second best album of the year so far in my opinion…  here is what I said about this song, which opens the opus and is now, what used to be called ‘a single’ in the Good Old Days…

Filter Me Through You –  A beautiful piece to open -hit single material – could almost be a follow-up to The One I Love by REM  – If I can’t have you… I’m in the ether. It’s now or neither. Filter Me Through You.  Now, that is a great bit of oblique love-song lyric-writing…  The whole idea of your true-love being a psychic filter who can remove all of your impurities and harmful matter.  Brilliant.

And now, here is a cool-looking video for the song featuring a 1968 Pontiac Bonneville under the midnight sun on the streets of Vadsø, Norway.

Now, that, is a great piece of Americana – by a band who by some fluke are in their prime thirty years on from their heyday.  Literate and wise, musically experienced yet enthused, this is transcendental rock’n’roll for the not-so-young… I’m so glad I discovered this band now, after missing out on them way back…

The Dream Syndicate were joined onstage recently for a rendition of the title track from the album by none other than John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin, captured on video here;

And, as if you needed reminding – the band play the UK at the end of October /early November – the first London date is sold out. Only four dates so plan ahead.  Being from the city I would recommend the Southampton date (hotels available for under £50 for a double-room at time of writing).  Now, scroll back up and listen to ‘Filter Me Through You’ again…. you know you want to.
