Ex BBC Radio 1 DJ Mike Read once banned Frankie Goes To Holywood’s Relax and has been attempting to ban another record. This time, though, it’s his own.

His controversial song in support of UKIP was being pushed to be number one earlier tho sweet but has now seen Read request the song he wrote in support of UKIP be withdrawn from sale following complaints that it was racist.

The song, ‘UKIP Calypso’ was performed with a mock Caribbean accent and sings the praises of party leader Nigel Farage and was met with a  mixed reaction on the internet.

Read commented.

“I am so sorry that the song unintentionally caused offence. It was never meant to, and I apologise unreservedly. I have told the record company to withdraw the single immediately.”

More details on the song and it’s lyrics in full are here.
