He first came onto the radar in the last couple of years at late and great Sounds music paper in the early nineties and was already writing those witty, perceptive and in-depth pieces about the REM end of music culture that become his trademark style. From Sounds he ended up writing for Select, Mojo and Uncut and his current home, Q. His recent Mojo piece on Ian McCulloch was a fantastic piece of writing and a perceptive insight into the dark heart of rock n roll.

David also wrote in depth essential books like his one on Creation Records (My Magpie Eyes Are Hungry For The Prize) and Goodnight and Good Riddance about John Peel.
