Cold Water Swimmers – Burn Your Idols – Exclusive First Listen!
Burn Your Idols
Released 21 June 2019
Manchester Cold Water Swimmers keep the good stuff coming with their latest release, Burn Your Idols which is out on 21 June. Nigel Carr reviews with photo by Paul Husband.
The tight, raw accessibility of Cold Water Swimmers sits at the very core of this song, the follow up to the double A-side Summer Breeze/I’ll Be Your Witness.
Ex-Dub Sex and The G.O.D. Chris Bridgett fronts one of our cities most exciting sleaze-punk bands with Carrie Lawson on bass and Selina Clements Woolnough on drums. Their debut single saw them firmly hitting a Stooges vibe, this track reveals the true versatility of the band. It sprawls into early Ian Brown meets Summer In The City territory with Bridgett’s knack for writing a great hook plastered all over it. It’s punchy, witty and in yer face – brilliantly put together – quickly delivered with a driving melody that pulls you in from the first note.
The frontman is revealed as a true songwriting force of nature and with the two girls providing rhythm, they are as cool as too. Relevant ‘now’ songs that stream together perfectly, sending shivers down your spine! Brilliant live, I can’t wait to hear more of their output soon!
Cold Water Swimmers Say:
Burn Your Idols is an inspiration song. Set aside what you know and reach out for what you want. Sit and wait or do whatever. It’s hard to find a reason a song, a verse is often all it takes. LISTEN WHEN… you feel out of step with your world and don’t understand a thing…you feel you’ll never be good enough.
TAKEAWAY: blame is a wasted game – no one gets out alive. burning it down and starting again can sometimes be the best thing.
Cold Water Swimmers play The Peer Hat in Manchester on June 21 alongside The C33s who we covered last month – I recommend you be there!
