Reading based Cities In Dust kick off October with a new single, Vanishing Anarchist, ahead of a hometown gig later in the month; a bill which includes Louder Than War favourite Jane Weaver.
The band started life as an angular, break-beat-driven, indie-synth-rock ‘bedroom’ project called The Ady Baker Sound but what was initially a solo project quickly grew into a full band consisting of Ady Baker (vocals and Microbrute); Jim Dorney (Bass and guitar); Billy ‘Smile’ Imrie (Guitar and Vocals) and Leo Brown (Drums and Loops).
Speaking of the song, frontman Ady explains, “the song title, Vanishing Anarchist, was inspired by a reference in the memoirs of Stephen Morris from New Order, but refers to those people who are very vocal about their Politics, and position themselves as an activist but never back it up with action, in fact run away at the first sign of trouble”
The band have released a couple of singles previously, including the stomping Ten Ton Smile and recently, This Chaotic Shop. The latter being a very much a groove-led piece in a similar to Second Coming era Stone Roses. This follow up continues in a similar vein, although The Beloved come to mind on first listen. It’s indie rock with elements of hip-hop, electronica and psychedelia which meld seamlessly.
Cities in Dust return to the stage on 30 October at the all-dayer party BEAT CONNECTION at South Street Arts Centre, Reading
