Chas Hodges (Chas and Dave) RIP

Chas Hodges, of Chas and Dave fame, has died aged 74.

The band’s official Twitter account announced the sad news today.

In a tweet, the family wrote: “It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our very own Chas Hodges. Despite receiving successful treatment for oesophageal cancer recently, Chas suffered organ failure and passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of this morning.”

The band, most famous for their hits Rabbit and Ain’t No Pleasing You, first got together as a duo in the 1970s after playing in other bands and doing session work. They were famous for their unique style labelled rockney, which mixed “pub singalong, music-hall humour, boogie-woogie piano and pre-Beatles rock ‘n’ roll”.
